Artist-In-Residence
Visiting Artist

Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts has established a role in the community for providing opportunities for artists to exhibit and create work. With six to eight multidisciplinary studio spaces, several galleries including the Chaney, AIR, Balcony and Hallway galleries, and an outdoor sculpture venue, artists within and without the Maryland community bring their work to MHCA.
The local Artist-in-Residence program provides subsidized studio space to artists who wish to interact with and enliven the community with their work. Artists from all disciplines who create original work are invited to apply, although the studio space is best suited to visual artists. Studios are approximately 400 square feet, or half-classroom size, with water and elevator access.
The Visiting Artist-in-Residence program invites artists from New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania to reside in Annapolis for one to three month residencies; engaging the community in outreach projects that emphasize the artist’s unique vision. Artists must also create their own original work while in residence. Studio, housing, and stipend are provided. MHCA works with one artist annually, contingent on grant support.
The exhibition program at Maryland Hall reflect artwork of local and regional artists, both in contemporary and traditional media. Throughout the year MHCA presents community exhibits in addition to curated group and solo exhibits. Proposals for indoor galleries are reviewed on an ongoing basis; outdoor sculpture is reviewed annually.
