Presented by Maryland Hall
Saturday August 15 | 10:00 am
Studio 117C
Cost: $100/workshop

Introduction to Letterpress, is a 4-hour session (from 10 am to 2 pm) that will involve small groups of students in the hands-on process of designing, typesetting, and printing their own cards, flyers, and small posters using American Primitive’s vintage wood and metal type and ornaments and flatbed cylinder galley-proof printing press.

Read about our Letterpress in this blog post.

Workshop printing projects include the following: up to a dozen 3½” x 2” business or calling cards, printed using hand-set metal type and ornaments; up to a half-dozen 3½” x 5” or 5” x 7” greeting cards, printed using wood or metal type and ornaments (or a combination of the two); up to three 8½” x 11” small posters/flyers, printed using wood or metal type and ornaments (or a combination of the two).  Participants should come with some idea of what they would like to print as their project, keeping in mind the time limitations of the workshop, but allowing the possibility of returning to finish in an optional 2-hour “overtime” session.  In lieu of an original project idea, participants can typeset and print projects needed for the studio: type specimen alphabet sheets, type case labels, signage, etc.
