John McClure

John McClure began making pots in 1969 at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. He did not complete his art degree there, but later graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Engineering.  After a long career as a design engineer, he returned to ceramics in retirement, after taking a class at the local art center. McClure has been the Pottery Studio Tech at Maryland Hall for several years.  In that role, he manages the operations of the pottery facility including; maintaining and operating the kilns, recycling clay, firing student work and mixing the custom made glazes used by all of MHCA ceramics students. He served as the curator of Maryland Hall’s recent exhibition, A Connection in Clay:  A National Invitational Exhibition.  ​
