Students will advance their knowledge of wheel throwing to create more complex forms. Teapots, platters, pitchers, and lidded forms are just a few of the pots to be created. We will also discuss aesthetic details regarding rims, feet, handles ,proportions, weight, etc. Bring an old small towel, a sketch book and lots of ideas. This course will explore the fundamentals of wheel throwing. We will slow down and take our time learning wheel basics. We will focus on establishing a physical memory of wedging, centering and creating a form in clay along with settling our minds for better creative work. Along with wheel throwing we will develop our own personal expression in clay through shape, content, textures and colors. This is about fun, so come, no matter your skill level. Students should wear clothes that can get dirty, trim their fingernails short, and tie back long hair. Materials and studio fee of $30 due in first class. No class on July 12.

Beginner hand builders will learn proper technique and Intermediate/Advanced students will take their skills to new levels. To enhance the beauty of the hand built piece, different texturing techniques will be introduced. Decorative slips, textures and glazing applications will also be explored. Always thought that it looked like fun to throw clay on the potter’s wheel? Here’s your chance to just try it, a two time session giving the wheel a spin. You get a quick introduction to wheel throwing, then you try it! We supply materials and tools, basic instruction and hands-on assistance. At the end you choose two to three pieces to be fired. During the following session we will talk about different glazing and decoration techniques and you will have a chance to glaze your pieces. Your finished pots can be picked up a couple weeks later. This is a great class for the curious or those who just want to check pottery off the bucket list! No experience required. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy and bring and old towel.
