    In this one day workshop students will learn how to make stamps and mini rollers from silicone molds and clay. We will learn how to make our own silicone molds and we will use found objects to create stamps that can be used to decorate clay, polymer clay, PMC, etc. Materials fee of $15 will include 5 lb of clay and all materials to make a few silicone molds. After the class stamps will be dropped off at MD Hall for firing and can be picked up a week later. Workspace : a sturdy table or countertop space and board (unfinished wood ½ “ thick around 15" x 9" in size or drywall board around 15" x 9" (ducktaped edges).Students will need a laptop, computer or phone with camera.     This class is suited for those with a little experience. Students should be able to throw a simple cylinder and a bowl. In this class we will work towards refining our throwing skills to make lighter, better centered pots. We will also pay attention to details like rims, feet, surface decoration, etc. Bring an old towel, a sketch book and lots of ideas.     Independent Study in Hand Building is a 6 week class designed for the advanced, self motivated student who is able to work independently. This class is offered as an opportunity for the student to focus, taking their own work to a new level in both concept and technique. The classes are monitored by the instructor who will be available to guide the student, offer critiques and help the student with both design and technical questions/problems dealing with both clay and glaze technique. There is a materials fee of $30 which includes 25 pounds of clay and the use of tools, glazes and kiln time. This is NOT for the production potter but for the serious student who would like to work on their clay narrative.     Always thought that it looked like fun to throw clay on the potter’s wheel? Here’s your chance to just try it, a two-time session giving the wheel a spin. You get a quick introduction to wheel throwing …then you try it. We supply materials and tools, basic instruction and hands-on assistance. At the end you choose two to three pieces to be fired . On the following session we will talk about different glazing and decoration techniques and you will have a chance to glaze your pieces. Your finished pots can be picked up a couple weeks later. This is a great class for the curious or those who just want to check pottery off the bucket list! No experience required. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy and bring and old towel.
