    Hand-building is an ancient pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, using only your hands, fingers, and simple tools. This 6 week class is designed for both the beginner and returning beginner student who would like to explore or strengthen their skills using the slab technique of hand-building. The student will discover how to create the basic clay forms (cups, plates, bowls and platters). To enhance the beauty of the simple slab, different texturing techniques will be introduced. Glazing applications will also explored. A materials fee of $30 cash or check payable to the Maryland Hall Pottery is due on the first day of class.     The Summer Woodturning Co-op provides access to the woodturning workshop during non-class times. Co-op members should be safety and technically evaluated to work independently, however it is strongly recommended to work with others in the room. Lab fee of $20 is due at orientation June 5 and June 6. Woodturning Co-op registration must be pre-approved by Matt Radtke (unless a renewing student) with release forms in place. Co-op members are expected to follow all recommendations for safety, including working only when an additional member is in the room. Access is Monday through friday 9:00AM - 9:00PM, Saturday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, unless a class is taking place. Please check schedule before arrival.     The Metals “Mini Session” is a one-day workshop for students of any experience level to learn to make a simple piece in 2 ½ hours. This mini session is also ideal for the beginning jeweler who wants to get acquainted with metals including copper, brass and silver. Come more than one time - each time, it can be a different project! We'll explore various tools & techniques used to create a basic pair of handmade earrings, a keychain or a simple pendant.     This class is VIRTUAL. The Basics I class is for beginners and almost-beginners. We start with the basic ballet positions and simplest steps. Barre and centre exercises are followed by gentle stretching. The class emphasizes alignment and balance to produce ease of movement.
