Drones are everywhere these days, and even some of the modestly priced ones carry sophisticated cameras and employ advanced flying technology. In this course, you’ll learn about the many makes and models of drones, their price ranges and capabilities, the rules and regulations of flying them, and how to best use your drone to take dramatic aerial landscapes and action videos. You’ll learn the basics of two of the most popular and powerful photo editing applications (Adobe Lightroom and FastStone) to make your drone photos “pop” using color balancing, sharpening, cropping, tone curves, and other basic but important editing tools and techniques. Contact education@mdhallarts.org for more detail. The class will include a live hands-on flight and photography demo. Students may bring their own drones to class to compare with the model flown by the instructor. The course will consist of a 3 hour initial session, then a second 2 ½ hour session. Contact rich@isaacman.net if you have questions.

Co-op members with diverse levels of artistic background, bring drawing or painting materials of their choice and the ability to work independently in a relaxed, collegial atmosphere. Easels, work benches and tables are provided. Three-hour sessions begin with a few gesture poses followed by one long pose for concentrated study. Occasionally a gestures only session is held, by agreement of enrolled artists. A modest model fee, $7-$10, is collected at each session for 3 hours of work with experienced figure models. It is the practice that people registered for any of the three Maryland Hall drawing/painting co-ops (Wednesday morning figure/Thursday evening figure/Friday morning portrait) are welcome to attend sessions of the other two co-ops by paying the model fee for sessions they attend. The Open Studio Portrait Co-op provides opportunity to work independently from live portrait models in a relaxed, collegial atmosphere. We bring to the studio professional models as well as subjects new to posing. Our models might occasionally return to their pose for more than one session to enable portrait studies to progress toward completion while working from life. Co-op members bring a diverse level of artistic backgrounds with the ability to work independently, as these workshops do not include instruction. Members work at their own pace, drawing or painting with materials of their preference. The managing of portrait studio sessions may occasionally be alternated among experienced members. The usual model fee paid by attendees is a modest $7 - $10 per 3-hour session. If work space permits, people registered for any of the three Maryland Hall drawing/painting co-ops are generally welcome to attend sessions of the other two open studio co-ops (morning figure/evening figure/morning portrait) by paying the model fee for sessions they attend. Artwork from the portrait and figure co-ops has been displayed periodically at Maryland Hall. For more information, please contact Sandy Cohen at sjcportraits@gmail.com.
