Drawing Classes at Maryland Hall

Drawing provides a variety of benefits to our overall well-being including decreased stress, improved creativity, and stronger critical thinking skills. Every semester, our Teaching Artists offer a variety of drawing classes using different mediums for beginners to experienced drawers. Draw from a live model in a figure or portrait drawing class, take your sketch pad outside in an urban sketch class or start from the foundations of drawing in a new virtual class.

The Thursday Evening Open Studio Figure Co-op offers the opportunity to study from life, working with experienced nude figure models. Short term/short pose: For the short Winter term, the three hour sessions will consist of poses from 1 to 20 minutes long. Do you like gestures and quick drawing? Do you want to experiment with your sketching? Did you just complete a figure class and want to try an open session? This is for you! While no critique or instruction is provided, this is a collegial group of artists; co-op members have diverse levels of artistic background. Easels, work benches and tables are provided. A modest model fee, typically $7 - $10, is collected at each session for 3 hours of work with experienced figure models. It is the practice that people registered for any of the three Maryland Hall drawing/painting co-ops (Wednesday morning figure/Thursday evening figure/Friday morning portrait) are welcome to attend sessions of the other two co-ops by paying the model fee for sessions they attend. Both portrait and figure work are displayed in the lower level alcove gallery. For more information, please contact Louise Wallendorf at lawfineart@gmail.com.

Our last class will be your creation. I will be doing some talking and showing about the importance of backgrounds in any piece, and maybe even 3D lettering (no promises!) Your project will be up to you, and the only parameter is: first - to have fun, and second, to draw out you're alter ego however you would like to.
