Photography Classes in Annapolis

Whether you're looking to get the most out of your camera and get off "auto" mode, you have a new drone to play with, or you want to learn how to sell and exhibit your photographs, our photography department has an engaging class for you. Each semester brings a new mix of opportunities to improve or discover your photography skills, no matter the type of camera you have in your toolkit. 

Our Teaching Artists include Rich Isaacman, the President of the Digital Photography Club of Annapolis, and Joe Yablonsky whose teaching roster includes the Smithsonian, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, VisArts in Rockville and Anne Arundel Community College

    Learn the techniques required to capture great night photos of downtown Annapolis! Bundle up as we visit iconic Annapolis locations, decked out for the holidays. We’ll address how to use exposure modes, exposure compensation, white balance and ISO to guarantee great results. A tripod and camera with exposure modes such as shutter priority and manual is required for this class. A remote shutter release is recommended but not required. Bring your camera, tripod and instruction manual to the first session. Students provide their own transportation. Field trips will require considerable walking.     "Gain a thorough understanding of your camera's exposure meter, understand why it sometimes gives you a photo that's too light or too dark, the exposure compensation function, histograms, metering modes, white balance and dynamic range.     This class convenes March 7 and March 28. A photo essay is a series of photographs that are intended to tell a story or evoke an emotion in a viewer and tends to include some text. Learn all about photo essays and create your own Annapolis Public Art photo essay that will include photos of statues, monuments, memorials and murals. We'll discuss camera controls, composition and lighting considerations. You'll also receive information resources regarding where to find your subjects along with time of day recommendations for the best lighting. The class is only two sessions, with a few weeks between both sessions, to give participants plenty of time to visit multiple locations.
