The Ballet Theatre of Maryland believes in providing everyone with access and opportunity to explore movement and dance. Our adaptive dance program is an inclusive class that specializes in meeting the needs of individuals with mental and/or physical disabilities. This class promotes self-expression, enhances spatial awareness, improves motor skills and coordination, fosters cooperation and collaboration all while building a strong community. Students can expect to explore creative movement and learn the fundamentals of classical ballet. At the start of the first class, parents/caretakers will have the opportunity to disclose information to the instructor about the student’s disabilities/specific needs as a form of awareness to cater best to each student. Students should wear comfortable clothing/athletic wear (i.e., pants, shorts, or skirts, and shirts easy can move in) and socks or ballet slippers.

Musical Autist Troupe is an inclusive group of individuals 15 years of age and older, with and without disabilities, as well as high school/college student interns, and guest musicians. Time is spent each week sharing songs with one another, which can be a recording of a favorite song, or a piece that is performed live for the group if a participant so chooses. This group is a hybrid class with in person and virtual courses led simultaneously by board certified music therapists.Group leaders often introduce music which celebrates neurodiversity, self-advocacy and empowerment. Class time is also spent rehearsing and recording songs to be performed in advocacy events facilitated by The Musical Autist non-profit. Previous music skills are a benefit, but not required.
