Laura is a master potter who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bowie State University with a degree in Art Education.  She also holds a masters equivalency in Ceramics.  She was nominated in 2011 for career art teacher of the year from Maryland Art Education Association.

Laura got her start in the world of clay soon after graduating high school when she apprenticed in a NYC pottery where she got a solid education learning all aspects of the potters trade.

She maintains her potters studio at her home in Annapolis and sells her work privately.

    The weather’s getting warmer and summer is here…come and enjoy an evening of fun and creativity with your friends or significant other at Maryland Hall! In this 2 1/2 hour workshop, you’ll make your own mug or large wine tumbler from clay. Teaching Artist Laura Switkes will take you from start to finish as you shape and mold your vessel using slabs of clay that will be dishwasher and microwave safe. It’s fun and easy, perfect for beginners or a girls night out. Finished pieces can be picked up approximately 2 weeks after the workshop BYOB, snacks will be provided.
