Maryland Hall offers a variety of weekly summer day camps running mid-June through mid-August for ages 5 & up. Most camps are partial days with select camps offering a full-day itinerary. Your young artist or dancer can have some fun with clay, spend an intensive week studying under their MD Hall Teaching Artist preparing for a portfolio review, or study music with Naptown Jazz Kids. With options for a variety of age groups and mediums each week, we guarantee a fun, safe, and creative summer!

    This fun painting class will start with learning all about colors, using the color wheel and mixing paints. We will move on to different types of painting; water color, water color pencils, and acrylics. From there, students will paint two canvases, one 11x14 and the other a postcard size. We will start with paper to size the project and create several thumb nail sketches for our studies and proceed to the easel to paint. Students will try several brush types as well as a variety of mediums for effects with acrylic paints. All styles of painting will be acceptable from realism to abstract, depending on the student's choice of subject matter for their work.     Students fill their work with color using oil pastels and soft pastels to create beautiful landscapes, still life studies , animals and abstracts. This class covers pastel mixing, papers, both wet and dry techniques, mono-tone works and realist studies. If you have never tried pastels or have had trouble with muddy colors, this class is a necessity. Students should bring numerous photos to class the first day.     Intro to Abstract Painting begins with several excercises to highten creativity, while working with color, new techniques and materials. Every class starts with a new technique.     The Teen Studio allows young artists to concentrate on their skills in a nurturing and professional Studio setting. Students may work with any subject matter, with any materials and techniques. This includes drawing, painting, printing, pastels, small sculptures, fiber arts, etc. We will have personal critiques throughout the week and go over "tricks of the trade", and basic framing and displays for student's work. Students should supply their own materials for each project, including photos or subject matter. Individual attention will be given to each student.     This workshop starts with techniques and materials commonly used by professional artists. Each day we will work with a new material including assorted drawing pencils, charcoals, erasers, papers, and oil pastels. Subject matter will include animals, human faces and forms, still life settings, and landscapes. Techniques will include enlarging and reducing images, line, form, light and shadow, volume, through value studies. Students will have class time to draw subjects of their choice, using the techniques covered in class. Please bring several photos and items to class with you on the first day of things that you would like to draw. This can include objects such as photos, action figures, animated figures, or just ideas that you would like to put on paper. A materials fee of $45 is due to the Instructor the first day of class (this fee covers everything we will use in class and an itemized list is available upon request). This class is for beginners to intermediate level student. Students attending Jr. Drawing, Painting, may stay through the supervised breaks for lunch/snack time between classes for a fee of $5 per student, per supervised break, per day.
