Maryland Hall offers a variety of weekly summer day camps running mid-June through mid-August for ages 5 & up. Most camps are partial days with select camps offering a full-day itinerary. Your young artist or dancer can have some fun with clay, spend an intensive week studying under their MD Hall Teaching Artist preparing for a portfolio review, or study music with Paul Reed Smith. With options for a variety of age groups and mediums each week, we guarantee a fun, safe, and creative summer!

    Your aspiring builder will love creating sculptures in this class about making art with air dry clay.     Children will draw a picture of their favorite animal or pet on paper and then construct the same portrait on a 6 inch square tile of glass using fusible glass.     This workshop is for beginner to intermediate young painters. Class starts working with the color wheel, mixing the paint color students want for completing several paintings on canvas board. We will use transfer and free hand techniques. Students may bring photos for subjects matter and may include animals, action figures, cartoons, pets, vacation post cards etc. No portraits please. Students will learn how to create brush strokes with several types of brushes using acrylic paints and finishing mediums. A materials fee of $45 is due to the instructor at the first class (this fee covers everything needed for this class and an itemized list is available upon request). I have hundreds of stock photos if students would like to use them.     The Kid's Art Studio is a great place for students to use their imagination to create anything! All sorts of supplies, paints, charcoal, markers, pastels, as well as craft supplies galore are at their fingertips to make several creations over the week. Your young artist will learn to think, draw, and ink like an illustrator -- designing works of art around their favorite stories or their own narratives.     An introduction to the art of classical ballet for the novice including the basic positions of the arms and feet, the basic exercises of the ballet barre and centre, plus exercises for strength and flexibility.     Students in this class will have a chance to use quality, studio grade artist materials to create several final drawings of numerous subjects, including still life settings, exotic animals, and dynamic landscapes. Value studies, composition, shadow and light along with line and form studies will help young artists progress on a daily basis. Comparison of different papers, charcoals and drawing pencils will give students a variety of choices to use for their final projects. Students will have daily “Home Studio” work to prepare for the next day’s lesson, it is not mandatory, but extremely helpful if this work is completed.     Students taking this workshop will be using quality studio grade materials and streched canvas to create a painting of their choice and subject matter. Students should bring several photos or objects of their choice to the first class to select a subject for a final painting. We will start with paper to size the project and create several thumb nail sketches for our studies and proceed to the easel to paint. Students will try several brush types as well as a variety of mediums for effects with acrylic paints. All styles of painting will be acceptable from realism to abstract, depending on the student's choice of subject matter for their work.     Students fill their work with color using oil pastels and soft pastels to create beautiful landscapes, still life studies , animals and abstracts. This class covers pastel mixing, papers, both wet and dry techniques, mono-tone works and realist studies. If you have never tried pastels or have had trouble with muddy colors, this class is a necessity. Students should bring numerous photos to class the first day. These can be from a book or magazine, vacation photos, your photos, anything goes. All subject matter is your choice. A materials fee of $55 is due to the instructor on the first day of class.
