Every Painting is a Song: Elaine Weiner-Reed and Rogue Collective

Annapolis Arts Week - Free to the Public

Wed. June 6 | 6-7 pm

Coinciding with Elaine Weiner-Reed's exhibition Masks and Mirrors: Explorations of Identity

Every painting is a Song will take place in the Chaney Gallery and consist of a musical trio from Rogue Collective playing a structured improvisational piece specific to one of Elaine's paintings.

"If my paintings were songs, what would they sound like? How would they ‘feel’ and what would they say?" -EWR

The night will be a melding of music, visual arts, and conversation. Cello and violin will both engage visitors through listening but will also encourage the understanding of painting in a different way – through song. Artist Elaine Weiner-Reed will also talk about her show Masks and Mirrors and the inspiration behind her paintings.

ROGUE COLLECTIVE, based in the Washington DC area, explores "the gap" between classical and popular music through collaboration, original composition, improvisation and performance. RC takes the form of a string quartet—a configuration of instruments that has been at the forefront of music making for centuries—and re-imagines it for a contemporary audience. RC uses the language of their ipods—classical, hip-hop, rock, jazz, soul, and electronic music—to create improvisatory scores and new, vibrantly composed string quartets.
