Artist Bio & Statement

I received my undergraduate fine arts in printmaking and art education training from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. I studied arts administration at the University of Utah, was the former Director of Salt Lake City Arts Council in Utah, 1983. I received a Master’s in Education and classroom instruction with a focus on Multiple Intelligences, from the University of Rio Grande, Ohio in 2003 and a Master’s degree in Community Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), 2007. I have worked, primarily, around organizing communities through culture and art to produce social change. In 2007, I received an Open Society Institute (OSI) Fellowship to continue the cultural organizing work I started within the communities of West Baltimore. Additionally, I’ve done three tours with AmeriCorps and was a USA Visual Arts Representative at Festac ‘77 in Lagos, Nigeria. In 2011, I was an exhibitor in the Black Male Identity Project, at Morgan State Fine arts Museum. I’ve maintained a working studio since 2003 in Baltimore. I have over 10 years’ experience in teaching art in public and private schools.
