Course Description:

This class begins with a discussion on external anatomy. An understanding of the external anatomy of our animal friends is a valuable tool in creating the paintings.
Students will next be introduced to Gouache, its application and brushstrokes used and begin to explore the medium. The students will learn the techniques and materials used with gouache. The instructor will demonstrate in real time each technique and guide the students as they create their own paintings. The students will use mounted animals and photographs as models.
This class is designed to teach the various techniques applicable to gouache and to enable and encourage the students to begin to develop their own style of painting in this medium. This class will focus on color patterns — what we see when we look at animals in nature — and not intense detail.
