Workshop

Maryland Hall recently added letterpress workshops to their curriculum and staff had the opportunity to spend the afternoon in the studio with the instructor, Bob Hardy. Bob showed us around the studio and gave us an in depth look into the world of letterpress. The afternoon was very interesting and informative. We highly recommend you sign up for the intro to letterpress workshop on Saturday, August 15 from 10 am - 2 pm. Click here for more information on the workshop and to sign up today!

Here are some photos from our afternoon in the letterpress studio. Don't forget to check out the Letterpress as Art & Function: American Primitive Letterpress at Maryland Hall exhibition on display in the Chaney Gallery through August 31.

Get a solid foundation in figure and portrait drawing to enhance your portfolio and prepare you for college. Draw from a live clothed model on the last day.

Kim Farcot's Portrait and Figure Drawing Workshop 7/9/13 - 7/11/13

Classes begin with a series of gesture drawings and build up to longer poses and more detailed drawings by the end of the day. Demonstrations and examples will broaden the students' knowledge and appreciation for the beauty and grace of the human figure in art. Attention to line, form, shading, cross-hatching, using dramatic lighting affects and composition of multiple figures will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on students finding their own artistic voice and style.

Portrait Sculpture Intensive Workshop | August 13 - August 17

Students will have the opportunity to sculpt a life-like portrait in clay, working directly from the model. This workshop is designed for all levels of ability. Instructor Rick Casali's innovative teaching style embraces the French concept of "secret figure" - a knowledge/concept approach to understanding the portrait. This unique five-day workshop will consist of daily sculpture demos by Casali covering proportion, pose, geometric planes along with the anatomy of the eyes, nose, mouth, ears and the forms of the hair. Thorough measurements of each model will be recorded prior to class as a reference. Students will have their choice of a male or female model (model fee TBA). Recommended for portrait painters, sculptors, illustrators, and computer animators. Materials List.
